Used With Permission.Czech photographer Martin Rak’s long exposure black and white landscapes are what dreams are made of. “I have recently been more attracted to black and white photography, which especially together with long exposures allow me to drift away from the real world and realize my creative intention.” Mr Rak says about his latest black and white works. The smooth gradations from black to grey to white, the tack sharp details, but almost surreal feeling really gives the impression that what you are viewing is somehow otherworldly.

What makes black and white photography so important to you?

I really like black and white photography, because there is no color to distract you. It is all about the shapes, light and composition. I mostly shoot black and white long exposures because I strive to achieve an ethereal and dreamy mood in my images

What inspires you to create photographs?

I find inspiration on my trips, hiking in nature and exploring new places. Even if without my camera, I always look for possible motives, whether I am walking around the city, driving my car or climbing the mountains.

Why is black and white photography so important to our future in the art world?

The world is way too colorful these days and black and white photography makes people think and leave more space for imagination. It is also more challenging for the photographer because he/she needs to have a vision and that is very important.
